Each year, we challenge our campers to design a mission patch that will become the official emblem of Space Adventure Camp. This year, campers were asked to create a mission patch design inspired by one or more of these themes:
Beyond Boundaries: This year Space Adventure Camp has a new Advanced Camp: Launch Lab - Cubes in Space™! By launching experiments on scientific balloons, we’re able to go Beyond the Boundaries of science on Earth. Design a mission patch that shows how Space Adventure Camp takes us Beyond Boundaries.
Soar Above the Shore: Space Adventure Camp is lucky to be able to call the Eastern Shore home. The Eastern Shore is steeped in history and tradition, including the Annual Chincoteague Pony Swim which is celebrating its 100th year in 2025! Design a mission patch that celebrates Space Adventure Camp’s connection to the Eastern Shore. For more information on the 100th Pony Penning visit this website: Chincoteague Island VA | Ponies
You can view each design below, including the artist's comments. After viewing the designs, you can vote daily for your favorite design at the bottom of this page. Your vote will help decide which patch design is the 2025 winner!
The camper with the winning patch will work with our staff to refine their design, creating the 2025 Camp Mission Patch. This patch will become the emblem for this summer's camp and be featured on the camper t-shirts and all camp-related items and media.
Patch A
Artist’s Comments: It shows the connection of being better and going beyond your past self, in the patch it shows Mars and Earth and a connection between the two in what I believe to be the near future.
Patch B
Artist’s Comments: Campers in space!
Patch C
Artist’s Comments: A rocket ship flying out of this world.
Patch D
Artist’s Comments: In my patch design I included, the night sky of the Eastern Shore, a launch with Cubes in Space, and a constellation of the Little Horse in recognition of the Pony Swim celebrating its 100th year! I think my patch design "Search beyond the stars and light up the world" incorporates both themes that connect VASFA to the Eastern Shore. I am very excited to visit VASFA space camp and cannot wait!
Patch E
Artist’s Comments: For the theme Breaking Through Boundaries I drew an astronaut with an alien headband holding a spaceship and the planet Saturn as they are breaking through a barrier. This is portraying that at night all we can see are tiny dots we know as stars and nothing more but with the power of STEM we can see and discover so much more!
Patch F
Artist’s Comments: I used the theme to come up with the idea to make the helium balloon made from cubes and have cubes in space.
Patch G
Artist’s Comments: Rocket ship in outerspace and ponies.
Patch H
Artist’s Comments: 1. The blue crab symbolizes Virginia's Chesapeake Bay, representing the region's natural heritage and the academy's geographical connection. 2. The image of a crab on a rocket-like trajectory symbolizes reaching new heights and exploring beyond traditional boundaries, aligning with the academy's mission to inspire space exploration. 3. The depiction of Earth with the moon and stars underscores the theme of space exploration and science, emphasizing the global and universal reach of the academy's educational goals. 4. Soar Above the Shore encourages ambition and achievement, inspiring young minds to aim high and exceed expectations in their pursuit of knowledge. Overall, the patch captures the adventurous spirit and educational mission of the Virginia Space Flight Academy, motivating participants to embrace the wonders of space science and exploration.
Patch I
Artist’s Comments: UFO taking island pony in front of coast guard lighthouse with moon.
